The December 2010 issue of Hot Rod has a two-page story on our 850-hp supercharged LSX '72 Chevelle, which drove about 3,000 miles on the 2010 Power Tour with the air conditioning and no problems. The engine is one of the first combination like it, featuring GM Performance Parts' tall-deck LSX block, 454-cubic-inch displacement, LSX six-bolt cylinder heads and an LS9 supercharger. We made custom spacers to mount the blower on the tall-deck configuration, along with reengineering the inlet for the supercharger. We stuffed it all under the stock cowl hood of the Chevelle, hooked it to a 4L80 trans and hit the road. The car starts, idles and drives with exceptional smoothness, with nearly 900 horsepower 900 lb.-ft. of torque available with a quick stomp of the pedal. This new-generation 454 makes great power for our vintage Chevelle and its completely streetable - including pump gas! CLICK HERE to see the story on Hot Rod's Web site.
